Working with the prominent firm, Retail Design Group, on the interior of a new flagship store in Columbus, Ohio, Woodbank used unique "found" materials to create a rugged, mountain-lodge feeling in a sleek, sprawling, upscale retail environment.
At the request of the client, Galyan's Trading Company, a successful retailer of sporting and outdoor goods, we integrated functional and visually dramatic elements, using recycled and reclaimed wood.
The focal point of the central atrium in the store, visible through a soaring glass entry, is a 40-foot-tall sculpture of pine trees, a fascinating and beautiful grouping of pale, gleaming tree trunks, which had been rescued from the Barillas Peak forest fire in the Santa Fe National Forest, in the 1970s.
For a rustic, natural look throughout the store, we created woodwork, railings, paneling and bridge timbers from some exceptional Douglas fir and larch, which we retrieved from the super-structure of a century-old lumber mill which had closed its doors due to depleted timber resources in the region.

The story of the Galyan's store is one of a resolved intention on the part of the client, the designer and of Woodbank, to showcase environmentally sustainable wood products in a visually appealing and functional way.
